Obituary for Mary Louise Winter
Mary Louise Winter, 87, of Winnebago, died Monday, May 23, 2022, at Prairie View Assisted Living Community in Winnebago. She was born January 6, 1935 in DeKalb, IL, the daughter of James Frank and Louise Clare (Murray) Kirby. She graduated from DeKalb High School in 1953 and the University of Iowa in 1956 with a Dental Hygiene degree. Mary married John Turner Winter on June 14, 1958 at St. James Catholic Church in Lee, IL.

Mary worked as dental hygienist, homemaker and took care of preschool age children in her home. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pecatonica. She enjoyed playing bridge for over 60 years, swimming and riding her bicycle. She most loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her sons, Patrick (Martha) Winter of Winnebago, Timothy (Melody) Winter of Marengo; daughter-in-law, Kristine Winter of Rockford; grandchildren, Kelly (Adam) Viel, Ryan (Sarah) Winter, Hannah Winter, Hailey Winter, Zachary Winter; great-grandchildren, Emmalyn and Landon Viel, Michael and Savannah Winter; brother, James Murray (Charlotte) Kirby of Green Valley, AZ; several nephews and nieces.

Mary is predeceased by her husband of nearly 60 years, John Winter; son, Michael John Winter.

Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 126 W. 5th St., Pecatonica with Reverend Dennis M. Morrissy officiating.

Private interment 12:30 p.m. at St. James Calvary Cemetery near Lee, IL. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established for St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
