
Obituary for Melvin "Mel" Lee Daily
Melvin “Mel” Lee Daily, 91, of Pecatonica, died Saturday, September 4, 2021, at his home with his family by his side. He was born May 21, 1930 in Rockford, the son of Glen Lee and Ethel Loretta (Houston) Daily. He enlisted in the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War from August 10, 1950 to August 9, 1954. Mel was married to Annabelle Shreve on June 29, 1951, until December 1985. Mel married Earnestine (Spradling) Curtis on May 20, 2000, at Middle Creek Presbyterian Church near Winnebago.
Mel drove bus for Peoria Rockford Bus Company for thirty years. He was a member of Middle Creek Presbyterian Church and the Eugene J. Barloga American Legion Post #197 in Pecatonica since 1992. He enjoyed playing cards at Westfield Grange, pitching horseshoes in leagues and tournaments, and was a member of Beloit Horseshoe Club. Mel loved woodworking, building cabinets and furniture, and enjoyed working in the yard.
Mel is survived by his son, Thomas (Joanne) Daily of Roscoe; daughter, Kathleen (Richard) Dvoratchek of Cazenovia, WI; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mel was predeceased by his wife, Earnie Daily; daughters, Sandra Njos, Ella Daily; brother, Keith Daily; sister, Lucille Frost.
Funeral service 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 10, 2021, with a visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. at Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago with Reverend Dr. Anita Stuart-Steva pastor of Middle Creek Presbyterian Church near Winnebago officiating. Interment at Willwood Burial Park in Rockford.
