Obituary for Michael R. Cunningham
Loving Husband, Dad And Special Papa

Winnebago - Michael R. Cunningham, 61, of Winnebago, died Friday, August 2, 2013, in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born February 9, 1952, in Rockford, the son of Allen and Paulette (Preau) Cunningham. Graduated from Byron High School in 1970. Mike married Jacki Burkhart on April 7, 1973, in the Church by the Side of the Road, Rockton. He worked for his father-in-law, Harold Burkhart, on the Burkhart farm, in his early years. Following that time, Mike owned and operated three over-the-road semis, until 1990, when he joined the Iron Workers Local 498. For the past six years, he passionately oversaw operations of American Industrial Rigging (A.I.R.) with the support of his crew. The loves of Mike's life were his three granddaughters and the time spent watching his son build his pulling tractor, "Industrial Strength". He also enjoyed taking car rides and antiquing with Jacki.

Mike is lovingly survived by his wife of 40 years, Jacki; daughter, Heather (Nathan) Palmer of Byron; granddaughters, Madalyn, Katlyn and Kalley Palmer; son, Nicholus (girlfriend, Adriane Themas) Cunningham of Winnebago; mother, Paulette Cunningham of Loves Park; sister, Chris (Steve) Knutson of Loves Park; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Allen; brother, Jeff Cunningham; and father- and mother-in-law, Harold and Sis Burkhart.

Many thanks to our friends and the staff of OSF St. Anthony Medical Center for their great support and services.
