Winnebago - Mildred "Millie" J. Newman, 71, of rural Winnebago, died Thursday, June 1, 2006, at her home, after a sudden illness. Born November 20, 1934, in Egan, the daughter of Clark and Ethel (Erxleben) Pals. Mildred married David Newman on February 8, 1952 in Leaf River. Together, they farmed over 50 years. In addition, Mildred was a Winnebago School District bus driver for 37 years, a Sunday newspaper carrier for the Rockford Morning Star for many years and volunteered preparing the Totem Post Winnebago school newsletter. She was always busy at home with her family and their activities, visiting and caring for elderly friends, gardening and raising chickens.
Mildred's surviving family includes her husband, David Newman of Winnebago, children, Rita (Dale) Kruse of German Valley, Juanita (Gregory) Cunningham, Mary Ellen (Scott) Droy, Wesley (Diane) Newman and Warren (Eileen) Newman, all of Winnebago, grandchildren, Jeff, Bradley and Kacie Kruse, Eric (Ginnie) and Todd (Jayme) Cunningham, David, Megan and Brandon Droy and Kyle and Melissa Newman, great-grandchildren, Haylie Cunningham and Kowen Newman and many nieces and nephews.
Millie was predeceased by her parents, grandsons, Michael Kruse on November 7, 1992, and Justin Cunningham on March 15, 1999, and bothers, Lyle and Merle Pals.
Funeral Information
Service is at 12:00 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2006, with visitation 10:00 a.m. until service time, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago; the Rev. Carlton K. Easley, pastor of North Grove Christian Church, will officiate. Burial in North Grove Christian Cemetery in Egan.
