Obituary for Muriel Ann Goettsch
Muriel Ann (Bergdale) Goettsch joined her husband Duane in heaven on March 13, 2021. Muriel was born in Hawarden, Iowa on April 14, 1930, to Leslie and Ruth Bergdale. Muriel grew up on a farm in Alcester, SD, and loved telling stories of life on the farm. After graduating from Alcester High School, Muriel attended Sioux Falls College and received her teaching certificate. She taught several years in one room schoolhouses in South Dakota.

She married Duane Goettsch on June 11, 1953. Muriel and Duane raised their family in Winnebago, IL. Muriel ran her own pre-school center before becoming an employee of the Winnebago School District. Muriel loved to sew, knit, crochet, and could make just about anything. She loved tending to her flowers. She cared deeply for her family and her friends. Muriel was terribly saddened by the death of Duane last October. They had a wonderful 67 years together. We think she just could not live without him.

Muriel is survived by her three daughters and their spouses: Lorelei and Barry Ruhonis, Jill and Wes Umemura, and Kaija and Al Jackson, as well as her three grandchildren: Hannah, Cole and Nathan. Muriel is also survived by her siblings: Bernard, Marge and Jean. She is also survived by daughter #4, Sheila Spielman.

We would like to again thank Serenity House Hospice for their loving care. Donations to Serenity House in Muriel’s honor would be welcomed.

A private interment service will be at Winnebago Cemetery. Cremation rites accorded.

Arrangements by Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago. For an online obituary and tributes go to www.genandtfuneralhome.com.
