Rockford - Nancy L. DeShaw, 81, of Rockford, formerly of Winnebago, died Friday, September 12, 2014, in her home, with her loving family around her. Born on December 27, 1932, in Kewaunee, Wis., the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Kasal) Hlinak. Graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1950 and Rockford Memorial School of Nursing in 1953. Nancy married George DeShaw on October 3, 1953, in Kewaunee. She was a registered nurse, serving as a nursing manager at Rockford Health System for over 35 years. Nancy was a member of the Rockford Hospital of Nursing Alumni and Rockford Health System Auxiliary. She also volunteered at the Rockford Memorial Auxiliary Thrift Shop. Nancy loved gardening, cooking, antiquing, sewing, quilting, traveling and wandering the less traveled roads with George.
Nancy is lovingly survived and dearly missed by her daughters, Suzanne (John) Scott and Jeannette (Stephen) Haight; granddaughter, Pamela (Dax) McDonald; and stepgrandson, Brandon Haight, all of Rockford; and extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, George, on July 17, 2009; and brother, Joseph Hlinak.
Memorial visitation 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2014, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago. Cremation rites were accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Nancy's family or to Rockford Health System Auxiliary.
