
Obituary for Nicholas Thomas Martini
Beloved Father, Grandfather, Great-grandfather and Friend to many
Winnebago - Nicholas Thomas Martini, 84, of Winnebago, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2008, in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, after a courageous battle with cancer. Nick was born on September 4, 1924, in Rockford, the son of Peter and Maria (Licari) Laudicina. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, serving in Pearl Harbor and the Pacific and Australian Theaters. Nick married Marilyn Murray; they had a daughter, Diane; they divorced in 1952. Nick moved to Winnebago in 1963. He was a tool and die maker by trade as well as a gunsmith. Nick worked for Barber Coleman Co. for 26 years, retiring in 1986. Nick also owned and operated Frontier Specialties for over 50 years, retiring in 2008, due to his illness. Everyone knew him as the "Gun Man". He enjoyed hunting, gun shows and meeting new people, but most of all his friends of many years who shared his love of guns and sportsmanship. Nick was a devoted member of St. Patrick and St. Mary's churches. His family would like to thank the 4 West nurses and staff of OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center for their care and support and Lifeline Paramedic, Hannah .
Nick is lovingly survived by his daughter, Diane (Bill) Borkenhagen of Janesville, Wis.; grandsons, Chris (Kelly) Hesgard and Dayton (Desi) Quaerna, both of Madison, Wis.; great-grandchildren, Damian, Chloe, Nickolas and Isabella; sister Josephine (Tony) Genovese of Machesney Park; a very special nephew, Dan (Kathy) Genovese of Rockford; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Joseph Laudicina; and many aunts and uncles.

Mass of Christian Burial is at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 24, 2008, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 126 W. 5th Street, Pecatonica, with the Rev. Monsignor Thomas J. Monahan officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery, in Winnebago. Visitation 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 23, 2008, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago.
