Obituary for Nora Ann Skurski
Nora Ann Skurski, 99, of Byron, died peacefully at home August 22, 2022 with family by her side. Born June 15, 1923 in rural Santiago, MN, one of five children of Austin and Augusta (Peshke) Burns. In 1942, with three older brothers in the military and upon graduation from Clear Lake High School, Nora, her mother, younger brother Roland (not yet enlisted), and close friend Patricia Goenner moved to Rockford, IL. Nora and Patricia found employment at Roper Corp, a manufacturer of military pumps. After the war, Nora continued working on the assembly line. There she met her future husband, Stanley Skurski, as he had returned home after serving as a bomber pilot in the Army Air Corps. Nora and Stan were married April 15, 1950 and had four children: Maureen, Norma, Stanley and Howard. They moved to Byron in 1951 where Stan was part owner of the Cave Inn Tavern until 1973, when they moved to Las Vegas, NV. Stan and Nora returned to Byron in 1993 to spend more time with family and attend their grandchildren’s sporting events. They were blessed with 50 years of marriage together. Nora loved cooking, sewing, gardening, politics, and pinochle. She was a hard worker with a can-do spirit, evidenced by many home improvement projects she designed and completed.
Nora is survived by three children: Norma (Harry) Adams of Byron, Stanley (Tammara) Skurski, of Las Vegas, and Howard Skurski of Byron; seven grandchildren: Amanda (Francis) Martinez, Heather (John) Enzenauer, Harry (MaLyssa) Adams, Stanley Skurski III, Joseph (Alyssa) Skurski, Wyatt Skurski, and Maile Skurski; ten great-grandchildren: Damian Skurski, Olivia and Frank Martinez, Adelaid, Harry, Abagail, Annabelle, Benjamin, Marianne, and Isabelle Adams; sister-in-law Eleanor Burns; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Stan, daughter Maureen, parents, brothers (and sisters-in-law) Howard, Norman (Betty), Allen, and Roland (Eleanor) Burns, and great-grandson Kade Smedley Skurski.
Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m., with a visitation starting at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, August 27, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 226 E. 2nd St., Byron, with Reverend Richard A. Rosinski officiating.
