
Obituary for Norman R. Schwartz
Machesney Park - Norman R. Schwartz, 73, of Machesney Park, died Saturday morning, January 17, 2009, in River Bluff Nursing Home, in Rockford. Born February 14, 1935, in West Allis, Wis., the son of Herman and Edna (Waters) Schwartz. Graduated from Wauwatosa High School, Wis., in 1954. He served in the U. S. Army from 1956 to 1958. Norman married Sandy Franklin on May 23, 1987, in Rockford. He was an auto mechanic for Ford Motor Company for many years, and then Manley Motors, Belvidere, for thirteen years. Norman had a huge passion for racing and building cars, was a friend to all the racers and was a member of Badger Midget Racing Association and United States Auto Club. He was known as "Mayor" of Doc's Diner, in Loves Park.
Norman is lovingly survived by his wife, Sandy Franklin-Schwartz of Machesney Park; children, Steven (Sherry) M. Schwartz of Machesney Park, Debora (Ron) A. Sillanpaa of Rockton and Wade (Donna) O. Schwartz of Machesney Park; seven grandchildren; sisters, Merlyn Goodrich of Milwaukee, Wis. and Violet (Juan) Sablan of San Antonio, Texas; dear friends, Kevin Olson and Don (Vee) Kerley; and his two cats, Hannah and Oliver. He was predeceased by his parents.

Service is at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2009, in Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4055 N. Rockton Avenue, Rockford, with the Rev. George David officiating. Burial in North Burritt Cemetery, in Winnebago. Visitation 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2009, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago.
