Obituary for Patricia "Pat" A. Higar

German Valley - Patricia "Pat" A. Higar, 73, of German Valley, loving and devoted mother and grandmother, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, September 23, 2006, in University of Wisconsin Hospital, in Madison, Wis., while undergoing treatment for lung cancer. Born April 29, 1933, the daughter of Willis and Mildred (Kunzelman) Jacobs. Pat married Richard L. Higar on August 11, 1951 in the parsonage of the United Brethren Church of Ridott. She served as ambassador for the community as German Valley Postmaster for 44 years. Pat was a humanitarian, willing to lend a helping hand and a listening ear to anyone in need. She served 40 years on the Salvation Army Board, was active in the German Valley United Methodist Church, donated her time as a Hospice volunteer, and founded German Valley's food pantry. Pat was the recipient of German Valley Area's Most Valuable Person award in 1997. Her life exemplified the true spirit of service to others.

Pat is lovingly survived by her daughters, Crystal (Thomas) Ritzenthaler of Baraboo, Wis., Catherine (Patrick) Fosnacht of Sugar Grove, Carolyn "Caiya" (Mayo) Kawasaki of Tokyo, Japan and Candace Higar of Baraboo, grandchildren, Kristen Sanders of Sun Prairie, Wis., Brandon Sanders of Raleigh, N.C., Jacob and Jenna Fosnacht of Sugar Grove and Keito and Zion Kawasaki of Tokyo, sister, Ida (Jerry) Stykel of Freeport, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pat was predeceased by her husband, Dick Higar on April 30, 2003 and her brothers, Enos and Tom Jacobs.

Funeral Information

Service is at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 29, 2006, in German Valley United Methodist Church, in German Valley, with the Rev. Rick Neblock officiating. Burial in Silver Creek Cemetery in German Valley. The family will greet friends in Genandt Funeral Home, 145 Church St., German Valley from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 28, 2006 and at 10:00 a.m. until service time, Friday, at the church.
