
Obituary for Robert L. Gilbert
Seward - Robert L. Gilbert, 80, of Seward, died Tuesday evening, July 15, 2008, in his home, after a lengthy illness. Born May 29, 1928, in Rockford, the son of Harry and Sophia (Kesecker) Gilbert. He attended Winnebago schools. Robert married Ruth Whitney on July 26, 1945. He was employed at Rockford Products for sixteen years and was co-owner, with his wife, of Gilbert Body Shop in Seward. Bob joined the Seward Fire Department in 1956 and served as fire chief fifteen years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Masonic A. W. Rawson No. 145 Lodge and Eastern Star No. 303. Bob loved his family and enjoyed his grandchildren.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Ruth Gilbert; children, Mary (Lynn) Boeke, Linda (Phil) Dunmire, Douglas (Sherrie) Gilbert, Gayle (Dave) Leombruni, and Gordon (Steve Anderson) Gilbert; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and brothers, H. Donald (Darlene) Gilbert, William (Virginia) Gilbert and Glen Gilbert.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, son, Robert Stephen Gilbert; grandson, Matthew Leombruni; half-sisters, Helen (Leo) Dolan and Rhea (Bill) Fitzgerald.
Funeral Information
Service is at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 19, 2008, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until service time; the Rev. Ronald C. Farb, pastor of Seward Congregational Church, will officiate. Burial in Winnebago Cemetery, in Winnebago.
