Obituary for Roberta P. "Bobbe" Wenger
Seward - Roberta P. "Bobbe" Wenger, 80, of Seward, died Thursday night, October 7, 2010, in Rockford Memorial Hospital, after a short illness. Born May 30, 1930, in Belvidere, the daughter of Carl H. and Irene (Nicholson) Helm. Graduated from East High School in 1948. Bobbe married George F. Wenger on February 24, 1950, in First Lutheran Church, Rockford. She was employed at Woodward Governor Co. and then Amerock, retiring in 1992. Bobbe was an active member of Seward Congregational Church, its Women's Fellowship, the children's choir director for over 20 years and life-long member of the senior choir, former president of Church Women United, Winnebago County Home Extension, charter member of the Seward Historical Society, and a choir member of Rockford Choral Union. She enjoyed playing the banjo and Hawaiian guitar, bird-watching and collecting dolls, angel choirs and lighthouses. A die-hard Chicago Cubs, Bears and Bulls fan, Bobbe also was a master canner, cook and baker, especially known for her pies. She was a foster mom for several children and was Grandma to everyone.
Bobbe is lovingly survived by her children, Beth (Stuart) Colman of Pittsburg, Pa., Joyce Sanders of Roscoe, Howard (Darla) Wenger of Milwaukee, Wis. and Wayne Wenger of Seward; grandchildren, Jeremy (Sue) and Heidi Sanders, Brian Martin, Melissa Wenger, and Kira, Brandon, Carter and Riley Wenger; great-grandson, Carson Gilbert; sisters, Sharon Cannella of Grand Junction, Colo. and Rosie Elkin of Elgin; sister-in-law, Jeanette Lindblade of Rockford; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friend, Joanna Hall of Rockford. She was predeceased by her parents; husband on October 4, 2000; and brother, Carl A. Helm.

Service is at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 12, 2010, in Seward Congregational Church, with the Rev. Ronald C. Farb officiating. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Rockford. Visitation 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 11, 2010, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago.
