Rockford - Roger A. Whippler, 68, of Rockford, died Tuesday afternoon, March 25, 2008, in Rockford Memorial Hospital, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born January 29, 1940, in Rockford, the son of Woodrow and Helen (Smith) Whippler. Roger married Concetta "Connie" DiVerdi in 1959. He was a machinist for 34 years at Majestic Tool and then retired from LTL Company in 2005. Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to the casinos.
Roger is lovingly survived by his children, Michael Whippler of Rockford, Cheryl (Paul) Villarreal of Rockford, Steven (Nancy) Whippler of Roscoe and Lisa (Pete) Green of Davis; grandchildren, Chris, Mike and Jeff Foster, Sandra, Sean, and Scott Whippler, and Melissa and Adam Green; dear friend and companion, Bonnie Moore of Leaf River; sisters, Clara Christian of Rockford and Barbara Bowman of New Milford; several nieces and nephews; lifelong friends, Larry Stanaitis and Tom Taylor; and breakfast buddies, Ron Green and Augie Borchardt.
Roger was predeceased by his wife, Connie Whippler in 1996; nephew, David Christian; and lifelong friend Jerry Moore.
Funeral Information
Service is at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 30, 2008, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, with visitation from 12:00 p.m. until service time; Pastor Gary Cortese, of Global Harvest in Byron, will officiate. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, in Winnebago.
