Obituary for Roger James Schroder
Winnebago Roger James Schroder, 76, of Winnebago passed peacefully Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, IL. Born August 15, 1940 in Rockford the son of Fred Henry and Bernice Catherine (Glawe) Schroder. Graduated from Winnebago High School in 1958. Roger married Patricia Wagner on September 12, 1959 in the Winnebago United Methodist Church. He worked as a Production Supervisor at J.L. Clark Manufacturing (Clarcor) for 42 years. Having grown up on a farm Roger possessed a great affection for tractors, especially Allis-Chalmers and John Deere models. He was very proud of the quality restoration work that he did on 1/16th scale model toys and pedal tractors. Many days were spent at auctions or sales, always on the hunt for a rare find at a cheap price. He also found enjoyment in maintaining a large garden digging in the dirt and for fun producing pumpkins weighing in excess of 200 lbs.
Being a loyal supporter of the Winnebago High School boys basketball teams, he rarely missed a game. Last year, to his great surprise and delight, the entire team visited Roger at his home to present him with a basketball signed by all of the team members and coach Joe Murphy.
He was a lifetime member of the Forest City Dog Training Club, a Winnebago Wide Awakes 4-H Club leader and a member of the Winnebago Chapter American Field Service (AFS) hosting a student from France, Laurent deBatista in 1981-1982.
Thank you to Dr. Esfahani, and the very caring nurses and staff at Swedish American Cancer Center. Serenity Hospice and Home was a godsend in the last few weeks, a special thank you to Tracy and Val as well as all the other angels who tended to him at home and at the facility.
Roger is lovingly survived by his wife, Pat Schroder of Winnebago; daughter, Lisa (Bob) Warren of Machesney Park; son, Douglas Schroder of Pecatonica; grandchildren, Ryan (Lauren) Warren, Bradley Warren, Lori Schroder; great-grandson, Gavin Schroder; sister-in-law, Norma Schroder; several nephews and nieces; special friend, Cindy Rudy.
Roger is predeceased by his parents; brother, Fred Ross Schroder; sister Evelyn Thompson.
