Obituary for Roland Dale Poppen
Pecatonica Roland Dale Poppen, 85, of Pecatonica died Sunday, June 4, 2017. Born September 21, 1931 in German Valley the son of Clarence and Gladys (Klinger) Poppen. Graduated from Pleasant Prairie Academy in German Valley in 1949. Roland married Kathryn Jane Lameyer on November 8, 1952 in Seward. A veteran of the United States Army serving as a Medical Aidman from September 8, 1954 to June 7, 1956. Roland farmed for over 50 years, was a semi-truck owner/operator, a mechanic and a welder. He was a life-long member of the Silver Creek Reformed Church in German Valley where he served as a Deacon. Also a member of the Winnebago County Farm Bureau where he served as a director, American Legion Post 197 in Pecatonica, Rockford Area Association of Realtors and Mt. Morris Boat Club. Roland most enjoyed spending time with his two daughters and their families.

Roland is lovingly survived by his daughters, Susan (Craig) Hultgren of Pecatonica, Teresa (Randy) Gobeli of Winnebago; grandchildren; Jeff (Becca) Nelson, Travis Nelson, Kami (Clark) Harmon, Eric (Tracy) Gobeli, Jodi Gobeli; greatgrandchildren, Quentin, Callianne, Mack, Kylee, Alex, Aden, Abigail, Allison, Andrew, Drew; brothers, Wendell (Delores) Poppen of Egan, Gordon (Beatrice) Poppen of German Valley; sister, Clarene Dorty of Shannon; several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Roland is predeceased by his parents; step-father, Ward Fischer; brother-in-law, Larry Dorty.

Funeral Information

Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2017, in the Silver Creek Reformed Church, 326 S. Bunker Hill Rd., German Valley with Rev. Grant Mulder officiating. Interment in Twelve Mile Grove Cemetery near Pecatonica. Visitation 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago.
