Winnebago - Ronald C. "Ron" Quick, 73, formerly of Winnebago, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 in Weslaco, Texas, from lung cancer. Born June 25, 1939, in Rockford, the son of Clement B. and Lois R. (Schulz) Quick. Ron married Janet M. "Jan" Carlson on April 12, 1958 in Colton, Calif. She died Dec. 19, 2003. Attended East High School and worked at Amerock before enlisting in the U. S. Navy in March 1957 serving active duty as an aviation mechanic Jet 3 Petty Officer on the U.S.S. Lexington aircraft carrier until released to inactive duty Navy Reserves in June 1960 and then honorably discharged from obligated service in March 1963. Ron then worked as a machinist and a tool and die maker several years for Amerock and Aeroline and for a short while owned and operating R. C. Engineering Mfg. Co. A union truck driver for over 27 years, driving for several carriers including Snyder, Cassens, CRST and retiring in 1996 from Preston Trucking. He was a member of Teamsters Local 325 Rockford and Local 238 Cedar Rapids. During retirement Ron was a campground host at several state and county parks and thoroughly enjoyed wintering in Kirkland, Ariz. and more recently in the Rio Grande Valley as a true Southern Texan. Over the years Ron spent countless hours spoiling the family pets, Spike, Brandie, Lady and Blondie.
Ron is lovingly survived by his and Jan's three children; Walt (Diana Marshall) Quick of Winnebago, Fred (Denise) Quick of Mountain Home, Ark., and Cindy (Lyndon) Genandt of Durand; grandchildren, Nicole (Bill) Skelly and Andrew Zych of Chicago; Josh (Stephanie) Lewis of Rochelle and Caramie Waugh of Rockford; great-grandchildren, Alex, Trevor, Isaac, Angel, Macy, Nevaeh, and Liliana; his sister, Marjorie "Marge" (Harold "Butch") Branson of Belvidere; niece, Kym (Arturo Romero) Ali of Rockford; great-niece, Elena Lois Romero of Rockford; several sisters and brothers-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews and life-long, childhood friend, Dick (Sandy) Niday. Also predeceased by mother, Lois on July 23, 2001; father, Clement on May 13, 1966; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Hazel Carlson.
Funeral Information
Service at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 21, 2013, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, Pastor Tim Spickler, of New Life Bible Church, Winnebago, will officiate. Burial in Twelve Mile Grove Cemetery, Pecatonica. Visitation 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, January 20, 2013, in the funeral home.
