Beloved Father, Grandfather and Great-grandfather

Winnebago - Ronald E. Howell, 87, of Winnebago, died Sunday night, January 1, 2006, in his home, after a lengthy illness. Born June 4, 1918, in Belvidere, the son of Milbourn "Lee" Leland and Grace Ann (Underwood) Howell. He attended school in Winnebago. Ronald married Florence K. Seiler on May 9, 1942, in Rockford. He served in the U.S. Army 1st Cavalry, Battery B, 82nd Field Artillery, from September 1942 to October 1945, in the Pacific-Asiatic Theater during WWII. He first was employed at J.I. Case in Rockford, and then at Seiler Masonry. In 1952 Ronald and Florence moved to Winnebago and worked side-by-side tending to family, farm, animals, especially his horses, and a large vegetable garden. He was a member of Eugene J. Barloga Post No. 197 American Legion, in Pecatonica, board member of the Midwest Dairymen's Association, and a member of National Farmers Organization. His family wishes to thank VNA, NI Hospice, the Wound Clinic, and caregivers, Ed and Nicole (a.k.a Michelle). Ronald will be missed. "We love you."

Ronald is lovingly survived by his daughter, Nancy Ann (John) Updegraff, son, Jeffrey Ronald (Lynne) Howell, all of Winnebago, grandchildren, Eric (Fiance, Meghan) Pollard of Janesville, Wis., Jason (Angie) Pollard of Winnebago, Chastity (Jay) Garrett of Phoenix, Ariz. and Morgan R. (Michael) Anderson Brodhead, Wis., stepgrandchildren, Alicia (Jeremy Dahlhauser) and Ashley Latino, great-grandchildren, Natalie, Jadyn and Jozy, sister, Doris (Floyd) Crank of Rockford, nephew, Dennis (Dot) Drake, nieces, Marjorie (Bernard) Bowles and Lorraine (Bill) Houghton, buddies, Seko and Brandy.

Ronald was predeceased by his parents, wife, Florence K. Howell on July 8, 1998, brothers, Robert and Charles "Rusty" Howell, nephew, Robert "Bobby" Howell, Jr. and nieces, Betty Strote, Beverly Yettri and Martha Griffith.

Funeral Information

Private Service is on Friday, January 6, 2006, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, with the Rev. Rick Neblock, pastor of Winnebago United Methodist Church, officiating. At Ronald's request, cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2006 in the funeral home.
