Obituary for Samuel L. Snyder
Winnebago - Samuel L. Snyder, 87, of Winnebago, formerly of Byron, died Thursday, February 26, 2015, in Prairie View Assisted Living Community, Winnebago, following a lengthy illness. Born February 12, 1928, in Byron Township, the son of Thomas A. and Elnora (Moore) Snyder. He graduated from Byron High School in 1946. A farmer his entire life, Sam farmed primarily on the homestead in Byron Township. Along with his brother, Donald, together they showed state fair champion Spotted Poland China hogs in the 1950's. He was an Ogle County Farm Bureau member for over 50 years. His farming roots continued with large prosperous gardens, after moving from the homestead to Rock City and then to Orangeville.

Sam is lovingly survived by his brothers, Donald (Virginia) Snyder and James "Jimmie" Snyder, both of Rockford; nephews, Michael Snyder of Dixon, Grant (Karen) Johnson of Byron, Jimmie (Lori) Snyder of Rockford, and Thomas (Stephanie) Snyder of Pecatonica; and nieces, Debbie (Ken) Harrison of Waterford, Mich., Sara (Michael) McCracken of Machesney Park; several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; infant sister, Betty Jane; infant brother, Thomas David; sister, Clara Reber; and nephew, Carl Johnson.

Sam's family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Prairie View Assisted Living Community for their loving care and friendship.

Funeral Information

Service is at 12:00 p.m., Monday, March 2, 2015, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until service time; the Rev. Matthew Smith, pastor of Winnebago United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial in Twelve Mile Grove Cemetery, Pecatonica.
