Sandra Lee Maavich, 83, of Winnebago, died Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside in Rockford. She was born March 9, 1940 in Waterloo, IA, the daughter of Howard Robert and Urith (Catherine) Cole Scribner. She graduated from East High School in Waterloo, IA in 1958. Sandra married Jim Howard Maavich on July 11, 1959 in Dubuque, IA.
Sandra was a member of the Winnebago United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, the farmer’s market where she sold her homemade baked goods, her roller skating breakfast club, supporting Carpenters Place, being a Burritt Township election judge and family gatherings.
Sandra is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jim Maavich of Winnebago; son, Jim Maavich of Sumner, IA; daughter, Wendy (Alex Gonzales) Maavich of Durand; grandchildren, Matt Maavich, Mark Maavich, Luke Maavich; brother, Jim (Sandy) Scribner, Evansdale, IA; several nephews and nieces.
Sandra is predeceased by her infant brothers, Frankie Scribner, Billy Scribner.
Funeral service 11:00 a.m., with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago with Reverend Gavin Brandt pastor of the Winnebago United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment at North Burritt Cemetery near Winnebago. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established for the Winnebago United Methodist Church.
