Winnebago - Steffa E. "Skip" Heimert, 94, a resident of Winnebago since 1949, died Sunday evening, March 23, 2008, in Rosewood Care Center, Rockford. Born September 19, 1913 in Byron, the son of Fred E. and Mary (Steffa) Himert. He graduated from Byron High School in 1931. Skip married Nellie M. Shoemaker on August 10, 1937 in Oregon. During the Depression years, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Michigan and in Illinois. Skip was employed as a truck driver over 30 years, retiring in 1977 from Murphy Motor Freight, in Rockford. He then was employed by Lou Bachrodt Chevrolet, in Rockford, for several years. Skip was a member of Teamsters Local 325 and the Winnebago Masonic Lodge 745 AF AM. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan.
Skip is lovingly survived by his son, Michael (Hellen) Heimert of Rockford; daughters, Pat (Howard) Brentner of Freeport, Barbara (Ray) Bjorklund of Phoenix, Ariz., Margaret (Charles) Clauss of Chicago, Sandra (Sonny) Lapete of North Port, Fla., Ann (Paul) Orlandi of Cherry Valley, Sharon (Gary) Sexson of Crystal Lake and Denise (Tom) Grimes of Winnebago; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ellyn Rowley of Lakeland, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Skip was predeceased by his wife, Nellie M. Heimert in 1992; sons, Richard Heimert in 1977 and John Heimert in 1997; granddaughter, Melissa Brentner in 1967; brother, Glen Himert; and sister, Helen Hewitt.

Service 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 28, 2008, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago with the Rev. Rick Neblock, pastor of Winnebago United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial in Willwood Burial Park, in Rockford. Visitation 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 27, 2008, in the funeral home with Masonic Rites at 8:00 p.m.
