Obituary for Theodore K. "Ted" Merchant
Winnebago - Theodore K. "Ted" Merchant, 74, of Winnebago, died Friday morning, October 15, 2010, in Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born April 28, 1936 in Freeport, the son of John Robert and Florence (King) Merchant, Sr. Graduated from Lanark High School in 1954 and attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Ia. Ted married Janice Slamp on May 29, 1964 in Davis. He was a department manager and buyer for E W Clothing House, Freeport, for eight years and then held several positions at P. A. Bergner Co., now known as Carson, Pirie Scott, Milwaukee, retiring in 1994, as director of accounts payable, after 26 years of service. Ted had a passion for gardening and was known for his meticulously kept lawn and roses. He also enjoyed music, art and his neighbor's precious Yorkshire terrier, Samie.
Ted is lovingly survived by his wife, Jan Merchant of Winnebago; brother, Paul King (Virginia) Merchant of Eldridge, Ia. and of Mesa, Ariz.; sister, Mary Anne Colborn of Winnebago; and several nieces and nephews.
Ted was predeceased by his parents; brother, John Robert Merchant, Jr.; brother-in-law, Robert Colborn; and sisters-in-law, Betty Merchant and Dolores Merchant.
Funeral Information
At Ted's request, there will be no service. Cremation rites were accorded.
