Obituary for Thomas E. Hogberg
Beloved Son and Brother

Rockford - Thomas E. Hogberg, 34, of Rockford, died Tuesday, September 24, 2013, in his home, of an accidental drug overdose. His family has chosen to be open about his addiction and cause of death in the hope that others can be saved from this heartbreak. Tom had been clean and sober for one year following a three year addiction. His death will forever change the lives of all who knew and loved him; however, Tom's family does not feel his addiction defined him.

Tom was born on May 6, 1979, in Rockford, and graduated from Winnebago High School in 1997, where he excelled in music and graphic arts. After attending UW Platteville, he started his own web-based company specializing in graphic design. Tom also excelled as a percussionist and performed in the Kishwaukee Valley Band. He loved the outdoors and always looked forward to taking his boat out to go fishing. He was an avid bowler and loyal Chicago Cubs fan, a pastime he shared with his special Grandpa Tom. In addition to his mother and sister, Tom loved his animals the most.

Tom is lovingly survived by his mother, Phyllis (Emery) Hogberg of Winnebago; sister, Laura Hogberg of Madison, Wis.; grandmother, Arlis Hogberg; aunts, Kimberly (Jim) Polzin and Lisa Hogberg; father, David Hogberg; special family, Janet Klinger and her children, Jonathan and Julie Klinger; and dear friends, the Schleicher family and Summer Victor. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Dollie and Tom Emery, and Frank Hogberg.
