Obituary for Thomas "Tom" Edward Erb
Winnebago – Thomas “Tom” Edward Erb, 72, who made Winnebago his home in 1977, passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Mercyhealth Hospital in Rockford surrounded by his loving family. Born June 12, 1946 in Freeport the son of Henry Francis and Norma Alma (Gastmann) Erb. Graduated from Freeport High School in 1964 and served in the United States Marine Corps from February 9, 1966 to February 8, 1968, once a Marine always a Marine. Tom married Cynthia “Cindy” Lynn Kenneke on June 20, 1970 at Zion United Church of Christ in Freeport. He worked as a sales manager for Muller-Pinehurst Dairy in Rockford and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Winnebago. Over the years Tom’s interests included running, bicycling, cars, motorcycles and most recently horses. He most enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Tom was hard charging, called it like he saw it, all in and passionately pursued life.
Tom is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cindy Erb of Winnebago; children, Michelle Erb of Winnebago, Joseph (Janet) Erb of Winnebago, Dan (Becky) Erb of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Katie, Grace, Joe, Willa, Winston, Lochlan, Ivy; brother, Larry (Sheila) Erb of Freeport, sisters, Joan (Cliff) Gray of Rockford, Patricia (Carl) McNair of Loves Park; several nephews and nieces and his special friend, pet dog “Gracie”.
Tom is predeceased by his parents Henry and Norma Erb.
Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2018, at Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago with Pastor Tim Spickler of New Life Bible Church near Winnebago officiating. Interment at Winnebago Cemetery near Winnebago. Visitation 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 4, 2018, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established.
