
Obituary for Vera L. Peterson
Leaf River - Vera L. Peterson, 97, of Leaf River, died Friday morning, October 17, 2008, in Alden Alma Nelson Manor, Rockford. Born July 5, 1911 in Langford, S. Dak., the daughter of Clarence W. and Millie (Eickman) Myers. Graduated from Leaf River High School in 1928. Vera married John F. Peterson on September 24, 1932, in Kent. She was employed as a cook in the Leaf River School District for many years. Vera was an active member of the Leaf River Grange for over 70 years and the Leaf River Congregational Christian Church Go-getters. She enjoyed reading, traveling and babysitting for numerous Leaf River families.
Vera is lovingly survived by her daughter, Karen (Gary) Jones of Rockford; three grandchildren, Diana (Charles) Neiheisel of Holt's Summit, Mo., Laura (Keith) Soper of Danvers, Mass. and Elana Schelling of Rockford; great-grandchildren, Kevin Neiheisel of Holt's Summit, Mo., Jacob and Amelia Soper of Danvers, Mass., and Wyatt and Cody Tufte of Rockford; and sister, Edna Cuthbertson of Durand.
She was predeceased by her husband, John F. Peterson, on September 5, 1944.
Funeral Information
Service is at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 27, 2008, in Genandt Funeral Home 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time; the Rev. Dr. Murray Hanson, pastor of Third Presbyterian Church, in Rockford, will officiate. Burial in Twelve Mile Grove Cemetery, in Pecatonica.
