Obituary for Viola M. "Vi" Pelley
Seward - Viola M. "Vi" Pelley, 92, of Seward, died Monday, October 4, 2010, in Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born April 11, 1918, in Freeport, the daughter of Arthur and Mabel (Hunt) Herbig. Vi married Lee William Pelley on September 3, 1936, in Belvidere. She was an active member of Seward Congregational Church. Vi crafted for many years with various church groups. Her passion was gardening whether it be vegetables or flowers.

Vi's family was the center of her life and she will be greatly missed by her children, Rosemary (Grant) Runyard of Winnebago, Patricia (William) Young of Byron, and Larry (Deb) Pelley of Machesney Park; grandchildren, Debra (Brian) Richter, Brad (Karen) Runyard, Karen (Mark) Manalli, Gretchen (Chad) Nelson, Jordan and Kirsten Young, Amy (Kevin) Ramsey, Carrie (Mike) Noel and Aaron Pelley and Meghan (Mark) Hawkinson; great-grandchildren, Brandon Dunnavan, Nicole and Derek Richter, Michael (Tracey) Runyard, Jessica (Jared) Brown, Brett and Kelli Runyard, Jake and McKenna Manalli, Taylor, Morgan and Dylan Nelson, Abigail Funk, Cheyenne McKenzie, Bradley and Jessica Noel, and Molli and Mallori Hawkinson; great-great-grandchildren, Blake and Hailey Runyard, Tenley Brown, Tristen Dunnavan; brother, Robert Herbig of Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vi was predeceased by parents, husband, Lee, on December 24, 1999, granddaughter, Christine Young; brothers, Albert, Leroy and Lloyd Herbig; and sisters, Eleanor Peterson and Lil Bankstead.

Funeral Information

Service is at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 7, 2010, in Seward Congregational Church, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time; the Rev. Ronald C. Farb will officiate. Burial in Twelve Mile Grove Cemetery, Pecatonica.
