Obituary for Walter "Wally" L. Meiers
Rockford - Walter "Wally" L. Meiers, 82, of Rockford, died Saturday evening, November 4, 2006, in Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born June 18, 1924, in Lena, the son of George and Elsie (Wolfe) Meiers. Walter married Bernita (Beck) Piper on February 13, 1970. He retired from Barber-Coleman in 1986. Walter held the position of administrator of the Rockford Moose Club for several terms and received the distinguished honor of the Pilgrim degree. Known to be outgoing, he loved to visit with friends; he also enjoyed bowling, golfing and gardening.
Walter is survived by his wife, Bernita Meiers of Rockford, children, Connie (Leonard) Marty of Rock City and Ronnie (Patty) Meiers of Machesney Park, stepsons, John (Naomi) Piper of Tavares, Fla. and Russell (Sherry) Piper of Machesney Park, grandchildren, Michael Marty, Courtney Meiers, Eric and Aaron Higgenbotham, Cindy (Chad) Pope and Eric (Kristin) Piper and sister, Mildred Pohl of Lena.
Walter was predeceased by his parents, daughter, Susan Meiers and brother, Lawrence Meier.
Funeral Information
A private service will be held. At Walter's request, cremation rites were accorded. Visitation 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 8, 2006, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago.
