Obituary for William D. Zimmerman

Winnebago - William D. "Denny" Zimmerman, 72, a life-long resident of Winnebago, came to a peaceful rest on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford. Born September 24, 1940, in Rockford, the son of Kenneth and Lusetta (King) Zimmerman. Graduated from Winnebago High School in 1958. Denny married Judy K. Hazzard on August 21, 1959. She died on January 9, 2001. Denny married Marilyn (Hoffman) Watson on February 14, 2005. Self-employed all his life, he excavated with his father and operated his trucking businesses, Foster Transfer in Rockford, JDK Cartage in Arizona and William D. Zimmerman Trucking in Winnebago. Denny was a member of the Winnebago Masonic Lodge 745 AF AM for many years and the Winnebago Lions Club. He enjoyed playing cards on Saturdays in Pecatonica and dearly loved the daily McDonald's and Sullivan's coffee crew gatherings. Denny was devoted to his family, adored being "Papa Zip", and loved every family function. He always enjoyed being on the road, being a mechanic, and spending time in Arizona.

Denny is lovingly survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughters, Lana (Tom) Daly and Janice (James) Olson; sons, Scott (Scott James) Zimmerman and Brett (Jennifer) Zimmerman; mother, Lusetta Zimmerman; sister, Darla Lovett; brother, Kenneth (Mary Ann) Zimmerman; grandchildren, Benjamin (Ashley) Doetch, Lea, Allan, and John Daly, Abigayle Olson, Luca and Shae James, and Kaycia, Allyson, Luke and Makenzy Zimmerman; great-granddaughter, Ginger Riley Doetch; brother-in-law, Lewis (Donna) Hoffman; several nephews, nieces and cousins; and special cousins, Reg Peterson and Cletha Dougherty. Also predeceased by his father.

Funeral Information

Service at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, with the Rev. Thomas Jacoby, pastor of First Lutheran Church, Pecatonica, officiating. Private burial in Twelve Mile Grove Cemetery, Pecatonica. Visitation 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 18, 2013, with Masonic Rites at 7:30 p.m., in the funeral home.
