Obituary for Maxine Rosemary Allabaugh
Maxine Rosemary Allabaugh, “Aunt Bill”, age 90, of Winnebago, passed away July 17, 2022, after a slow decline due to Alzheimer’s disease at Prairie View Assisted Living Community in Winnebago. Maxine was born February 26, 1932, to Elmer Daniel and Lucille Wilhelmina (Haas) Bowman of Mount Carroll, IL. On February 26, 1957, she married Neil Marcus Allabaugh and they later had four children and cared for two nieces as their own.
Maxine was a true “foodie”. She took pride in her giant vegetable garden and apple orchard, always growing, cooking, canning fruits and vegetables and sharing. She was a great hostess, who always had hot coffee and home baked goods available for your visit. She was an avid cheerleader to her sons in Winnebago High School wrestling and football and never missed a game. She eagerly volunteered as concessionaire to many of the sporting events at the school throughout the 1980’s and was proud of the awards she received for her volunteering.
Maxine managed the office responsibilities of the family business, Ace Pump and Well Drilling in Rockford. In the summers between 1983 and 1994 Maxine worked in the concession area with her sister Linda Tracey and niece Tammy Tracey at Ingersoll, Sinnissippi and Sandy Hollow golf courses in Rockford. Most everyone from those days knew her as “Aunt Bill”.
As a grandmother, she was ready to babysit at the drop of a hat and will be lovingly remembered for her delicious Christmas breakfasts, Maldesha and hidden sweets.
Her family is sincerely grateful for the tender care from the staff at Prairie View Assisted Living Community in Winnebago, where she spent her final years, as well as the care she received from St. Croix Hospice in Rockford.
Maxine is survived by her children: Brian, Jay (Maureen), Andy Allabaugh, Sally (Jason) Bennett, dear niece: Linda (Don) Elliott, sisters: Phyllis Allen, Linda Tracey, grandchildren: Kelly (Luke), Marcus, Thomas, Annie, Samantha (Aaron), Morgan (Dan), Abigale, Casey, David, Michael, Jessica (Michael), Sarah (Ethan), great-grandchildren: Cormac, Linden, Rachel, Joanna, Carter, Andrew, Remedy, Rynia, Buddy, Aubrey, Jayden, Ryder.
She is predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Neil Allabaugh, sisters: LaVonne Schutt, Virginia Taylor, Sharon Birkett, nieces: Tammy L. Tracey, Rae Jean Hill.
Funeral service 12:00 p.m., with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago with Reverend Lisa Lopez-Meyer pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Winnebago officiating.
Interment at Willwood Burial Park in Rockford. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established. For an online obituary and tributes go to www.genandtfuneralhome.com.
