
Obituary for Martha Juanita Scott Sample
German Valley - Martha Juanita Scott Sample, 94, of German Valley, died Wednesday afternoon, January 3, 2007, in Manor Court Nursing Center, in Freeport. Born April 1, 1912, in Rush County, IN, the daughter of William and Nellie (Hood) Scott. She graduated from New Salem High School, IN in 1930 and from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, in Indianapolis, IN, in 1933. Martha worked five years as a floor supervisor and then as superintendent of Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Children's Home Hospital until 1941. Martha married Lowell Sample on July 8, 1941. She then was an assistant head nurse at Elgin Hospital. Martha and Lowell moved to German Valley in 1946. Martha was an active member of German Valley United Methodist Church and served as its treasurer 20 years, the Prairie Roses 4-H Club leader for 16 years, served on the Stephenson County Home Extension Board for eight years, Stephenson County Fair Board for four years, and the German Valley PTO as secretary for one year. Martha loved to knit, crochet and sew.
Martha is survived by her nephews, Bill (Rosemary) Scott of Rushville, IN,Fred (Barbara) Scott of Greenwood, IN and Sam (Becki) Scott of Waldron, IN, one grandnephew, five grandnieces, five great-grandnephews and three great-grandnieces, sister-in-law, Betty Scott of Greensburg, IN and special caregiver and friend, Barb (Roger) Hayunga of German Valley.
Martha was predeceased by her husband, Lowell Sample on March 14, 1998, and brother, Jim Scott.

Service is at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2007, in German Valley United Methodist Church, 7 Main St., German Valley, with visitation 9:00 a.m. until service time; the Rev. Rick Neblock will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded.
